Under the Sea with Addie is based, in part, on the behavior of the real life species of octopuses known as Amphioctopus marginatus, invertebrates who use coconut shells as tools to build their homes beneath the water. In the story, Addie notices the sea floor littered with shells and gathers them during her daily jogs from one end of the sea to the other. The home she builds gets so tall it eventually peeks through the water, causing humans to question its origin. Addie’s mother encourages her to tell her story to the humans who inquire above so that they may become more sensitive to taking care of the environment in which all creatures live.
The fourth of a six-book children’s wellness set, Under the Sea with Addie focuses on environmental wellness. Appropriate for grades Pre-K-3, as well as the child in all of us, the set also addresses physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual and interpersonal wellness.
